Simple Sunday

mirror pic anyone?
Sunday is the day of rest so your face and hair should get a break too, right? Whether going to church, going out to eat, or just hanging out with friends, I make it a point to keep makeup to a minimum on Sundays and my hair natural.

I slept in a bun last night and just shook my hair out this morning. Spritz a little hair spray and you're good to go for the day! :) Don't have hair that can just be? (mine usually) Then try one of the hairstyles featured in my previous hair post on bad hair days.

Skip all foundation today and just apply a little concealer to any problem spots. I dab Maybelline's cover stick coverage in medium beige on and blend with my fingers. Do a once over with loose powder and then a little swipe of blush and your done!

If you don't like going bare eyed like me, because of white eyelashes (blonde probs) choose a brown mascara and swipe on one coat. Too many coats and your eyelashes will look clumpy. Brown clumps are well... yucky. Brown mascara will give you a natural no makeup look, but also vamp up those lashes for a fresh faced feel. :)

Just remember to give your face a break from harsh chemicals and makeup every now and then! It'll thank you later!

Take a stroll

The weather has cooled down, the leaves have started to change, and evening strolls have become a must. Fall has officially hit my little town and I couldn't be happier. Who doesn't love good weather and   beautiful nature?

Yesterday as I was driving home from cross country I couldn't help but notice most of the summer flowers and foliage had gone away and been replaced with the colors of fall. When I got home, I decided to take a walk for a couple minutes before going inside and it made me feel very serene (stress free for a brief moment. ha!)

I took a few quick pictures to share and I hope they put you in the Fall mood just like the walk did for me. :)                                                                           xoxo,                                                                                                     Rachel katherine

Last Call, then all aboard the fall train.

Hey guys, Today's post is on guys fashion, and even though I'm personally super happy for fall weather I'm still going to miss some summer trends. These next couple days may be your last chance to rock your summer style without worrying about freezing to death, or being that awkward kid in shorts during 50* weather.
                                                                                                                                                      xoxo,
Rachel Katherine

Today I took advantage of one of the last warm days prior to cooler fall weather. I decided to brake out my shorts for one last time this season. Khaki shorts can make any outfit look better and you can never have too many pairs. You can pretty  much buy khaki shorts anywhere.

I chose to wear my favorite shirt today that I purchased from Jack threads.  Jack threads has a little bit of everything and it's items can fit every style. I suggest you check out their website, you won't be disappointed. The sneaker pattern on the pocket and sleeves are what caught my eye on this shirt, because it was something different and made the shirt unique.

My shoes are a pair of old, beat up Zoo York canvas shoes in gray that I bought for $9 at JCPenny, even though they're beat up I still love the way they look plus they are super comfy. Enjoy your last moments of short sleeves, because cold fronts are on the way!

                                                                                                                     Till next time -Kyle

Hair care

Your hair can easily get out of control, which can ruin even the best of days. Over these past few months I have found that the products above make me want to pull less of my hair out and actually rejoice to the hair gods. again.

I am a major hair killer. There I said it. I will pull, tease, and heat my hair just so it will sit the way I want it. Over the summer I made a promise to myself that I would treat my hair better, and I have followed through! After a couple of months of not caring if my hair was perfectly styled everyday, I begun to realize I was killing my hair and that it wasn't even looking good anymore.

I went to the salon chopped all my dead ends off ( a horrible experience) and decided to start new. I wanted to make sure my hair would never get that fried again and had to start over. After I chopped my hair I went to the store and bought a few products I think everyone should have.

I still curl my hair from time to time and when I do there are two things I must use. Tresemme's extra control hair spray in 4. It keeps all my fly aways in place without making my hair crispy. It's all about movement people!

I also use John Frieda's Frizz-Ease heat protection. It has been my life savor! I love it to say the least. You should use it before you put any heat on your hair, because it protects you from frying your beautiful locks. If you use any heat on your hair I strongly suggest you go out and but this product!

Before any styling can occur though I prepare my hair the night before. Once a week I'll wash my hair regularly with shampoo, but then after I get out of the shower I will use Pantine's beautiful lengths deep conditioner. I love deep conditioner, because it keeps your hair looking shiny, keeps it healthy, and helps it grow. On days I don't deep condition, I will use Garner Fructis Style smoothing milk. Just a little dab goes a long way! It's keeps your hair shiny and helps it stay frizz free when you style your hair. My best friend has very curly hair and she praises this product. xoxo, Rachel Katherine

a little bit of sunshine

Every fall people toss out their bright colors in exchange for neutrals, but even though I love my browns and grays, I'm not quite ready to throw out my colorful pieces just yet.

My theory is that if you keep your brights matching the colors of the leaves than you are still a vision of fall. Keep your yellows and oranges, for they do not deserve the boxes at the top of your closets yet!

You still want to make a statement and a bright yellow sweater is just the piece to say "Hey fall, I'm still bright and fabulous." Forever 21 is the place this beauty came from and even though you can't see it the sweater is a v- neck, which I love!

Adding a scarf will 'fall up' any outfit, because let's face it you can't have fall without scarfs.  You just can't.  The scarf I am wearing is from TJ Maxx and is one of my favorites.  A flower scarf will add pops of color to your outfit and a give it girly vibe. The flowers in this scarf are kind of Hawaiian, but the colors are dark enough that I believe it can be used for fall as well as spring. :) yay for two scarf seasons!

Dark Jeans. Must I say it again? They are an essential for every closet.

And last but definitely not least are my riding boots. I've talked about these in earlier posts, but they keep popping up because they can't help but scream fall.  I may not own a horse but riding boots have become an almost everyday occurrence in my wardrobe. Wearing such a stapple of fall will make every outfit fit this season.

Go forth and be bold. Not sunny out? Be the sun! :D

Cat lovers will love this and sweater lovers too I guess...

Someday I may be that crazy cat lady who never marries and hides her pain with an abundance of cats, but for now I am living that life vicariously through cat sweaters.

Cat sweaters surprising come in all different styles. Also surprising is that stores are in high stock of many of them, and I must say that I rather highly enjoy this new trend. Quirky sweaters are one fashion statement that I find I fall under their spell every fall. (must be left over from my middle school tutu days..more on that another day.)

Despite popular belief you CAN wear a Cat sweater and not look like a crazy fool, however why else would you wear one? I paired mine with medium washed jeggings and my overly loved black combat boots. I have worn this sweater with lilac skinnys from American Eagle though that matched the nose and ears. I was a little too excited about that paring, since the only reason I even got the jeans was to match this specific sweater.

Anyway my point is that this trend is one that I may have to keep going even if I'm the only one doing so. Her are a few of my favorites that I have found.

hey there's me! my sweater is from H&M and was rather cheep.
modcloth is great for finding vintage treasures
although more expensive, I did see this shirt on Ebay
(if you can deal with hammy downs)
Forever 21 is cheep and usually has the trends
you are looking for. :)
this is one of my favs, and sadly also the most expensive
The brand is ASOS from the american store,
but I think it would be totally worth the splurge.

don't judge me too much

Bucket List of Fall

Every season you should make a bucket list of things you want to accomplish before the weather changes again so that you make the most out of it.

This fall I am making a bucket list and every time I do something from the list I will blog about it. :) Most things on the list will involve Halloween, because it's my all time favorite holiday!

  • Visit a Pumpkin Patch AND pick out the best ones to take home
  • Carve Pumpkins
  • Make pies,  cooked pumpkin seeds, caramel apples, and cider.
  • Make leaf art
  • rake a bunch of leafs with friends and jump into them
  • run the Turkey Trot ( a 5k race in my town)
  • Make my own Halloween costume
  • go trick- or- treating ( never too old)
  • scary movie marathon
  • go to a haunted house/ maze
  • Bonfire with closest friends
  • hay ride
  • Welcome my sisters baby into the world, and celebrate birthdays
  • hiking and taking pictures.

if you have any other ideas about what I can add, leave a comment. :)

Wake up and feel better

No one wants to crawl out of their toasty bed, especially with the cool weather rolling in. Waking up to energizing music can push those thoughts of curling back up in a ball out of your mind.

Pandora is a quick and easy way to listen to music in the morning, plus you don't have to have a smart phone to do it and it's free! Either download the Pandora app or go to Pandora.com and listen from your computer.

However, pulling up your own music lets you have more control of who and what you listen to. Some of my favorites for early morning blues are:

  • Royals- Lorde
  • Holy Grail- Jay Z and J.T
  • Wings-Macklemore
  • Love Somebody-Maroon 5
  • Best Song Ever- one direction
  • High School Musical, Disney, and Broadway tunes ( what? they put you in a good mood!)
  • Tightrope- Walk the Moon
  • Ride- Lana Del Rey
  • Hey Jude- Beatles
  • Your Song- Ellie Goulding
  • Let it Be- Beatles
  • Wrecking Ball- Miley Cyrus
  • Counting Stars- one Republic
  • I will follow you into the dark- Death Cab for Cutie
  • Bad- The Cab
  • Yellow- Coldplay

Those are just a few songs of many that make me not pull my hair out in the A.M.
If you know of any good songs, comment and I'll look them up. I always love new tunes. :)

FOTD

Tuesday's FOTD ( face of the day)
When fall comes, so should new makeup and here is what I'm using to break out of my summer no makeup face.
face: To start off I use Cover Girls stick concealer in medium beige, and set it with Cover Girls professional loose powder in 115. ( I hate using full coverage -ie. foundation- because it makes me break out)
I use Maybelline's Dream bouncy for blush in Coffee Cake 60 and
Estee Lauder's four set blush/bronzer kit, using the pink kiss 02 and bronze goddess 01.

eyes: My favorite thing in my whole makeup set is my huge Sephora palate, because no matter what color I need, it's there. Plus Sephora shadow is known to stay on throughout the day even without primer. It was a gift from my grandmother, but any Sephora store will carry it.
My VS smokey eye kit also comes in handy (especially when traveling) I used that kit today. :) it has 6 colors in it, 4 dark shadows and 2 highlighting one. I also use N Y C for my eyebrows.
Urban Decay Potion Primer is the best thing you will ever buy! A little dab goes a long way and it makes your shadow stick, even after you workout! ( if you wear makeup while working out, ech)
They have a few different shades but mine's in Eden, I chose it, because it's nude and blends well.
Wet n' wild h2o proof liquid liner is a liner git from God. It's hard brush makes winging your eyes super easy, and it stays put all day!
The most important thing, however is the Mascara (at least in my book) . I have been using Maybelline's Falsies volume express also in waterproof. I love having big lashes and so far this product works really well for that. *

Lips: Baby lib balm should be your best friend!

The main thing about makeup is to find what works for you and make sure it matches your skin type! No harsh lines ladies! You also don't have to use the same brand for everything, I sure don't! Find different brands that have the best product and use that!

*everything was used today, except for my Sephora kit and h2o waterproof liner.

Quick, Easy, Everyday Hairstyles.

Bad hair day?
    owi..

We all have those hair days where we either A: Don't Care B: Have no time or C: or it hates us.
With everything going on between school, sports, and extra circular activities, I have found NO TIME to do my hair everyday in perfect curls. So I had to come up with a few hairstyles that were not only cute, but are super fast to do in the morning.

All you need are a few hair things, bobby pins, and hairspray. :)
A super high pony with lots of volume, ie, hairspray = new BFF

Topknot/sock bun. (a few pieces should frame your face)
sometimes adding a bow in the back adds
a little more to your bun :)
lots and lots of braids. two dutch
braids meeting into a fishtail
This is my favorite! :)

Hope these are as useful to you as they are to me, no mess no fess, right?

The best of friends.

Going through High School can be tough just by itself, but without friends by your side it would be miserable.

Finding friends who will be there no matter is hard to come by. The important thing is to find a friend who doesn't care what you're going through, they just want to be there for you, even if they don't agree with whatever it is.  That kind of friend will probably be in your life for a long time, because you can trust them to respect you and love you no matter what.

Carrie Bradshaw once said that "Maybe our girlfriends are our soul mates, and guys are just people to have fun with" Ever heard of the saying "Bros before Hoes." well that rule applies for girls as well. Don't end up being that friend who will go to crazy lengths just to have a romance with a guy, even if it means hurting your closest friends. No one can beat your best friends.

Luckily for me, throughout H S I have made some of the best best friends any person could pray for. They're all so different from each other, but that's why I love them. We know that even if one of us doesn't understand where the other is coming from, one of us will. We have gone through so much together and done so many crazy stupid things that I can't look back at a H S memory that doesn't involve them.

This year one of us had the great opportunity to house a foreign exchange student, and we already feel, or at least I do, that she has been a part of our little family forever. God couldn't of landed a more perfect girl to add to our friendship circle even if he tried. We're so lucky to have her on this journey called senior year.

"On Thursdays we boy band it."

Hey Everyone! My name is Kyle and I'm your source for all guy related fashion.

So a couple years ago some of my friends and I had this bright idea of dressing up every Thursday with style inspired by One Direction. Two years later and 1D Thursday is still going strong and has spread throughout the school.

I try to switch up my outfit every week so it doesn't get boring and during these last two years I have discovered some very nice looking combos together. I try to look my best and be comfortable at the same time. (comfy is key to having confidence. *input by Rachel*)

Who knows maybe One Direction Thursday will catch on and you'll see everyone around dressed like a boy band member, well at least on Thursdays.
 Until next Thursday,
Kyle

Shirt: American Eagle
cardigan: Old Navy
Pants: Old Navy
Shoes: Rue 21

*Rachel steals the blog back*

Honestly if you're a guy and you dress well it will make any girl find you more attractive. And shoes even though they are not the first thing you see they are very important. Don't be that guy that wears the same pair of Nikes every single day. Not attractive. Unless your into that sporty don't care look every day.. which I'm personally not and neither are half the population of girls once we get older.

Hump day of NY Fashion Week

Too early to think of Spring? Well not for the Runway.

It's the hump day of New York City's fashion week. The day started with  Micheal Kors Show.
What I would give to be a model for Micheal Kors, before his models walk down the runway a sign is held up that says "Be romantic, strong, and gorgeous. Walk fast and with energy. Kill them with chic. Have a great show!!" If anybody could kill with chic, Kors would be the man to do it. He  knows how to be classy and sassy from head to toe no matter what.

The real show I am looking forward to, however is the much anticipated walk by non other than Ralph Lauren, the God of Polo's. Ralph Lauren is cable of making his lines classy and vintage but his cholthes also have a summer beach feel all year around. Plus Ralph Lauren is one of the only worlds highly acclaimed fashion designer who has people other than socialites and Celebrity's wearing his brand.

In honor of NYFW I decided to share with you some pictures of people who are strutting down the Hallway at my school.

Hailey Bibbee

Meredith O'bara

I just thought they all looked super cute today! I was supporting America in remembrance of 9/11 with my red white and blue. :)

#ESPNforMarissa

I'm taking a break from fashion today to talk about something a little more serious.

Sorrow plagued my hometown this past week as community members heard 12 year old Marissa Miller passed away unexpectedly during a soccer practice. Later we found out that she had an undiscovered congenital heart abnormality. With a motto "Be kind. Work Hard. Have Fun." Marissa loved sports and was a dedicated athlete.

Marissa's sister Ciara Miller, wanted to make sure her story was heard. ESPN does a Sports Center top 10 and our community would love to have Marrissa's spin floater as one of the video clips! Monday night #ESPNforMarissa trended in the USA and even had players from the NBA retweet to help with the cause.

I do believe however that even a hash tag and getting her video played on national TV is not enough. After hearing Marissa's story I realized that she was a healthy happy girl with dreams and because of a heart abnormality many of those dreams won't get to happen. We should all be raising money to help research on heart abnormality's which could lead to early detection in others. This could save lives, one heart at a time!

We could start our own Foundation to give money to research or donate to many of the ones already out in the world. A small town in WV got a hash tag to trend in the US, who says we couldn't raise thousands to help this cause! You all know now that you have a voice and it's important to use that voice for a good cause.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Marissa's friends and Family. I can't even begin to imagine what this is like for them and pray that they stay strong throughout this time of grieve. No one should have to deal with losing a loved one especially such young one.

OOTD and stains

Hi Everyone!

First off I'd just like to thank you for the over 100 views already, that's amazing!

Now on to Fashion :D

Today I am wearing an over-sized gray knit cardigan paired with a ballet pink and off white trumpet tank top (my favorite part is the lace and little knit buttons at the top!) Both of these pieces are from American Eagle Outfitters.

I love dark jeans, because I am a strong believer that god invented them for every size and they always look fabulous. Today I'm wearing my straight leg, dark wash in the brand Arizona. I'm a rather tiny person so I cuff my jeans once or twice. JC Penny's carries a variety of Arizona jeans and I highly recommend them, they are comfy and cheap! (ps: I do however usually buy my jeans from American Eagle)

Now on to shoes, the best part of any outfit! I am wearing my Steve Madden- bless his soul- charcoal ballet flats. These flats take 'ballet' flats to a whole new level because they tie with ribbons around your ankle. I love them!

if you are looking for cheap, beautiful, comfy shoes I would check out Steve Madden and Madden Girl because he has never failed me.

STAINS.
Now I am a coffee drinker and I love to drink it every day to wake me up for school or at least try to wake me up. *sops getting out of bed*  Today I was in a rush to get out of my house and spilled some of my coffee on my *gasp* white tank top. I luckily had a cardigan on and can cover it for now, but here our some tips to get stains out!

  • Before washing pre soak your item and try to get most of it out as soon as you can. DAB! DON'T RUB. If you rub the stain with Rocky strength it'll only spread!
  • Always keep a tide to go stick on hand, but make sure you only use it when the item is white!  It will bleach!
  • Lastly, ask your mom. They know all and will probably be able to get the stain out. If you no longer live with your mom... call her. They are stain gods!

My best friend Emily looked so chic today that I couldn't help but add her to this post!

Jeans: American Eagle
Cardigan: Old Navy
Shoes:  New york and Company
Shirt: Tj Maxx
and let's all smile at her sock bun!

New Fashion trends of the Fall

Nineties kids all prayed that their decade would be revived and it has happened -Well at least the Fashion received CPR.

Nineties Grudge is all the rage this fall. Grab your combat boots, army jackets, and over-sized sweaters because this look is here to stay. I personally think this comeback is one of the best fashion trends to be seen again. I mean who doesn't love to be comfy, especially if you're a student, when the leaves start to change and warmth becomes a necessity.

This fashion trend is also very friendly to all body types, boyfriend jeans look good on anybody and riding boots slim any leg when paired with a dark jean.

My personal favorites for this fall are going to be my Etienne Aigner riding boots in black and brown two tone and my abundance of scarfs, following the seasons colors of course! ( greens, blues, and browns) I also pulled out my sisters "old actually from the nineties" army jacket in an olive green that I plan to keep me warm while looking rather fashionable.

Combat boots are also a big trend everyone has jumped on. Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe are both places that I have found pairs reasonably priced. I think it's good to have a black and brown pair, just so that you can pretty much were them with any outfit.

Whether you plan to follow this trend or not just know that trends come and go, but you will always be you so try to add your own personal style to every trend! Mine is Red lips!
